Throwback Game

Iowa Football Equipment Manager, Greg Morris shows off the helmet that will be used by the team when Ball State comes to Kinnick Stadium September 25th. On that day the Hawkeyes will be wearing uniforms honoring the 1959 Rose Bowl team. Morris shows off the backside of the helmet honoring that game. Below is another way to honor the team. Each helmet will display the name of the member of the '59 team that wore the corresponding number. For example the #45 helmet will have Bernie Wyatt's name displayed across the front. Morris also plans on giving a bio of the '59 team member to the current numbered Hawkeye the week leading up to the game. The jerseys will be available for sale to the public beginning Thursday, August 12th at http://www.hawkeyefootball.com/.

Iowa's Throwback Game of 2010

When Iowa takes the field in late September at Kinnick Stadium against the Ball State Cardinals, don't be surprised to see a different look to the Hawkeyes as they emerge from the Southwest tunnel. The first time since the 2004 season opener against Kent State the Hawkeyes will participate in a "throwback" game, this to the 1958 season which resulted in the 1959 Rose Bowl.

Pictured above is the helmet of 1958 alongside the current Hawkeye model. No decals will be placed upon the bright gold helmet of the '50s. In front is the actual game uniform of Bernie Wyatt.
Currently there are no plans by Ball State to participate in the throwback era as Kent State did six years ago. Equipment manager, Greg Morris said the players are excited to honor the team of the 50s and participate in the event.

UPDATE: The Helmets will have a black stripe down the middle with numbers on both sides. A certain equipment manager was pulling someone's leg.

Brad Banks Does It Again

The most recent of the Heisman candidates the Iowa Football program has produced, Brad Banks spent some time in Iowa City which included the Hawkeye victory over Michigan Saturday night. In 2002 All-American Brad Banks was the AP College Football Player of the Year, Davey O'Brien Award Winner to the best college QB in the nation and was runner-up to Carson Palmer for the Heisman Trophy. Here he is pictured with equipment manager, Greg Morris.

Equipment Sale

Fans are lining up for the Iowa Football equipment sale set to begin in hours. What started out as one individual in a lawn chair at 9:30 this morning has turned into a line thirty deep. Items such as sweats, helmets, shirts, and other clothes are available.

This week's "The Q and The A" is Iowa Football Equipment Manager, Greg Morris. Also known as "The Shoe Guy," Morris hails from Solon, Iowa a small community ten miles from Iowa City. He currently lives there with his wife and two sons, one verbally committed to play for the Hawkeyes in 2010.
