Floyd Remains in Minnesota

For the second straight year Floyd of Rosedale, the travelling trophy between Iowa and Minnesota will belong to the Gophers as the Hawkeyes  lose their third game of the season, 22-21.

The Hawkeyes look for their sixth win to make them bowl eligible against Michigan this Saturday. The game with the Wolverines will be on ESPN with an 11am start time.

Homecoming Win for the Hawkeyes

Saturday was Homecoming in Iowa City, but it will be remembered as the day Marvin McNutt broke the record for career TD catches as the Hawkeyes downed Indiana 45-24.

Iowa scored on each of its possessions in the first half and finally stopped the Hoosier offense after Indiana scored on their first two possessions.

It was the second straight conference victory for Iowa as they head into the battle for Floyd of Rosedale next week. The Hawkeyes make a rare back-to-back return trip to TCF Bank Stadium where they look to reclaim the prized bronze hog, lost in the last regular season game of 2010.

Happy Thanksgiving

Three F's are common on Thanksgiving--Food, Family and Football. For the first time since 2001 the Iowa Football team plays the Saturday after Thanksgiving meaning a working holiday for players and staff of the Hawkeye team. Those members of the video staff who can't make it home will join us for some turkey and football on the tv. Above, Floyd is thankful he gets to spend another Thanksgiving in Iowa.

Floyd of Rosedale - Tournament Winner

Winning the Rivalry Trophy Tournament, the unofficial voting to determine the best travelling trophy in the Big Ten is Floyd of Rosedale. The #1 overall seed in the tournament goes on to win.

Rivalry Trophy Tournament Finals

The unofficial tournament to determine the best rivaly trophy in the Big Ten is at its Final stage. it comes down to two of the most original trophies, each involving the University of Minnesota. Floyd of Rosedale, which is contested between the Hawkeyes and Gophers (most recently won by Iowa) and the Paul Bunyan Axe, which goes to the winner of the Gophers and Badgers (most recently won by Wisconsin).

Vote in the upper right-hand corner of the blog before Monday, November 30.

Hawks win 10 - Keep Floyd at Home

The Iowa Football resumed their winning ways, in customary fashion with a 12-0 win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers. With the win the Hawkeyes extended their winning season to 10 and kept the coveted Floyd of Rosedale in the state of Iowa for one more year.

That was the end of Iowa's Regular Season.

Rivalry Tournaments Qtrs Pt 2

A new week and new pairings to whittle down to the best rivalry trophy in the Big Ten. Last week the #1 seeds of each bracket advanced. Floyd of Rosedale took down the Old Brass Spittoon while Iowa's other trophy, the Heartland was beat by Paul Bunyan's Axe. This week the brackets are as follows:

Floyd Stays Home; Hawks Down Gophers 55-0

The final college football game for the Minnesota Golden Gophers at the Metrodome was one their faithful will like to soon forget as their border neighbors from the south, the Iowa Hawkeyes destroyed the home team 55-0 and held onto possession of Floyd of Rosedale for the seventh time in eight years. The 55 point difference is the greatest in the 102 year history of the series. Iowa now waits their bowl destination but most roads point to a New Year's Day battle in either Orlando (Cap One) or Tampa (Outback).

College Football Week 12

A look back at College Football's week 12.

Go Beavers. All Big Ten members but Penn State will be cheering for Arizona this Saturday as the Wildcats host Oregon State. The Beavers looked impressive in their win over California and now travel to the desert. OSU is two wins away from playing in the Rose Bowl. Penn State has to like its chances playing the Beavers again instead of Southern California in their backyard. However if Oregon State makes the BCS, most likely that will send only one Big Ten team to the BCS party and each conference team will drop down the bowl selection list.

Fear the Turtle. Maryland has certainly improved as the season progresses. It opened the season by squeaking out a 14-7 win over FCS power Delaware. A week later lost at Middle Tennesse State 24-14. Following that upset the Terps haven't lost at home and their two losses came in the Commonwealth of Virginia to UVA and Tech. This past week they upset what was perceived as the best team in the ACC in North Carolina. They end their home slate this Saturday against Florida State and then end the season at Boston College. Two wins are definite possibilities.

The Cubs win the Pennant. No, this past playoff season wasn't a bad dream, but the Chicago Cubs have won a World Series more recently than the storied Michigan Football program has had a season with eight losses. The Wolverines have gone 129 without losing eight or more games in a season. If anyone tells you Rich Rodgriguez was left with the cubbard bare, don't believe them. WRs Mario Manningham and Adrian Arrington had eligibility remaining but left, and a starting offensive lineman defected to The Ohio State University last spring.

That is Floyd of Rosedale, the travelling trophy awarded annually to the winning team in the Iowa - Minnesota football game. Floyd has lived the good life in Iowa City over the past 12 months.
