Hawkeyes v Yellow Jackets

Iowa and Georgia Tech have never met each other on the football field, and have little history athletically, but the two school's paths have crossed twice in the last nine months.

In March Iowa hosted first and second round games of the Women's NCAA Basketball Tournament. As the #8 seed, the Hawkeyes faced the #9 seed Yellow Jackets. The ladies from Atlanta proved to be too much inside and the Hawkeyes lost in the opening round. Tech went on to face the #1 seed Oklahoma two nights later, but were not up to the challenge of the Sooners. Georgia Tech's season ended in Iowa City after putting the Hawkeyes on the sidleines.

A few months later tables were turned and it was the Hawkeyes travelling to Atlanta to participate in the NCAA Women's Softabll Tournament. The Yellow Jackets were the highest seeded team in the double-elimination regional, but the Hawkeyes lost to Auburn and Boston University and did not face the host school.

This time it is a neutral-field...Miami's Land Shark Stadium is the scene of the latest match-up between the Hawkeyes and Yellow Jackets.

Oklahoma Advances over Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech played #1 seed Oklahoma tough for most of the game, but was no match for the Sooners falling 69-50. Oklahoma moves on in the Oklahoma regional and will most likely advance to St. Louis and the final four.
Close to 1,500 showed up for the 2nd round contest in a site where host Iowa fell victim to the Yellow Jackets on Sunday night. There were many concerns of the attendance, but Oklahoma was well represented as well as Iowa fans who came to support women's college basketball.
Having two other teams play allowed for different customs, traditions and songs in Carver Hawkeye Arena. Shown here is an example of the difference between Iowa Basketball and what would be found at schools such as this one in Atlanta. The Georgia Tech Gold Rush performed at half time to AC/DC's "Shook Me All Night Long." Songs and routines such as this most likely would not be acceptable in Carver Hawkeye Arena.
