Iowa Football Media Day 2010

August 6th was the annual Media Day at the University of Iowa Football Complex. This is the day that anyone and everyone from the media gets their time with the Iowa Football players and coaches. After today the opportunities are fewer and it comes by request. Tuesdays throughout the season is the Kirk Ferentz press conference with requested upper classmen afterwards. Then following the game the same applies - Ferentz and requested upper classmen.

Although the Iowa head coach spends over thirty minutes answering questions to the media as a whole, following the press conference he is available for individual members of the media.

A popular subject for the local media is the play of the defense. Des Moines Register sportswriter Sean Keeler meets with secondary coach, Phil Parker.

And the head of that defense is the coordinator Norm Parker. Here Norm takes it easy and answers questions from his golf cart.

Following the interview session players, coaches and staff members head to Kinnick Stadium for the taking of the team photo. Above is a view of what it feels like to be in the picture....

2010 Iowa Football Coaches Clinic

The start of spring football also is a sign the Iowa Football Coaches Clinic is close. Over the weekend over 450 high school football coaches from within the state and surrounding areas came to the University of Iowa campus to be educated on the game in order to make their program better. Along with the Iowa Football staff led by Head Coach, Kirk Ferentz, high school coaches throughout the company were among the clinicians. The featured speakers were Norm Parker, Defensive Coordinator for the Hawkeyes and former Offensive Line Coach at Iowa, Joe Philbin who is currently the Offensive Coordinator of the Green Bay Packers. The two-day event ended with an inside look at the Iowa facilities as well as practice inside Nile Kinnick Stadium.

A most disliked person by Iowa fans. Iowa State Ahtletic Director Jamie Pollard is responsible for the high price of tickets to the intra-state rivalry.

Big Ten Network Practice Tour - IOWA

For the second straight year the Big Ten Network brought its crew to the Iowa campus to televise an Iowa Football practice. The faces of football on the network have been travelling around to each conference institution and package an entire practice session to be aired that night in a 90 minute show. Their trip to Iowa City capped off a two-week trek throughout the upper Midwest.

The Big Ten Network had an entire set along with multiple cameras. We were asked to share a lift with one of their cameramen. For close to $7 million a year and great publicity, we co-existed with the crew for one day. However next year we hope they are better equipped with longer cables allowing us to go to heights we are used to.

Iowa Defensive Coordinator, Norm Parker joined the crew on the set for an in-depth look at his side of the ball.

Iowa Linebacker Coach, Darrell Wilson was mic'd up for a segment of the show.

For those of you who follow the Big Ten Network on twitter, this is Brent, the person supplying the tweets for @bigtennetwork. He informed us he is one of the lone Cub fans among the travelling road show. Many of the other staffers are White Sox fans who have monopolized the televisions on the trip. We informed him he hasn't missed much.

Iowa Offensive Coordinator Ken O'Keefe was on the set to discuss how they would replace Shonn Greene for the '09 season.

Cameramen covered every inch of the Iowa Football practice.

DSM Mini Clinic

Anually members of the Iowa Football Staff travel to Des Moines for a mini-clinic for local coaches. This is the tenth year travelling around Iowa. Past years have seen stops at Sioux City, Council Bluffs, Chicago, Davenport, Cedar Rapids as well as Des Moines. On this night offensive line coach Reese Morgan, defensive coordinator Norm Parker and strength and conditioning coach Chris Doyle presented.
