The Nitty Gritty is located near UW's Kohl Center, on campus, but not in the heart of the Badger College Bar scene. Which is why many want to celebrate birthdays here. It is a family restaurant, that, like other restaurants in the Dairy State have a focus on good beer and outstanding brats. Children and grandparents feel comfortable celebrating with their kin knowing they won't be surrounded by a group of 20-some year olds looking to celebrate late into the night. Yet it is close enough to State Street allowing that same crowd a short walk to enjoy their birthday at this famous restaurant and then heading to the college bars to celebrate in style.
